Stage of route 5 From San Gemini to Cesi
A demanding route due to the steep ascent to the Hermitage of Portaria, also known as the Romita di Cesi, and the subsequent descent to Cesi. Along the way you can visit the splendid sito archeologico di Carsulae. We reach the Romita di Cesi, an ancient Franciscan hermitage immersed in the silence of the woods. The Convent was founded in 1213 by St Francis, who used to retire there in prayer. Tradition has it that it was here that Francis composed the Exhortatio ad Laudem Dei, considered an early draft for the Canticle of Brother Sun. Possibility of accommodation. The route reaches Cesi, a village rich in history overlooking the Terni basin. The stage ends at the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.
