Mark di Suvero - Spacetime

From 24 August to 27 October 2024, Todi pays homage to Mark di Suvero, one of the most important living sculptors linked to the generation of abstract expressionism and a reference point for environmental and public art on an international level.
The exhibition, curated by Marco Tonelli, promoted by the Fondazione Progetti Beverly Pepper, in collaboration with the Municipality of Todi, is held as part of the fourth edition of the Festival delle Arti and features a solo exhibition by the artist entitled Spacetime.
The exhibition itinerary opens ideally from Piazza del Popolo, which hosts the large sculpture Neruda's Gate, dedicated to the Chilean poet: it is an enormous portal, about 8 metres high, painted red, the typical colour of many of the American artist's steel sculptures. The structure, slightly inclined, is crossed by a long steel beam to create a dynamic effect that accentuates its expressive and dramatic force.
The work, at the end of the exhibition, will be installed in Todi, at the Bailey Bridge Park.
The exhibition continues inside the Sala delle Pietre in Palazzo del Popolo where, until 6 October 2024, large paintings and small sculptures expressing the playful and participatory sense of di Suvero's poetics will be presented. These come from the artist's personal collection and from his studio in New York, and were made in acrylic and phosphorescent paint between 2014 and 2022.
The exhibition will also feature three Puzzle Pieces, works in titanium and aluminium obtained from the composition of various independent metal parts.
