Il Giardino dei Lauri in Città della Pieve
“Il Giardino dei Lauri” is a space dedicated to contemporary art, nestled in the heart of the Umbrian countryside near Città della Pieve. Created by Neapolitan collectors Angela and Massimo Lauro in 1990, the exhibition complex consists of a large 650 sqm industrial warehouse, meticulously restored, and the beautiful surrounding garden. These spaces house around 300 works by leading contemporary artists, both Italian and international. The extraordinary complex, perfectly integrated into its natural surroundings, offers a journey through some of the most interesting experiences in contemporary artistic research: from conceptual art to Neo-Geo movements, from post-human themes to the leading figures in American photography today.
The featured artists are primarily from Europe and the United States, and alongside well-known and prominent names like Maurizio Cattelan, Takashi Murakami, and Mariko Mori, there are also artists born between the 1960s and 1980s who have achieved significant international success, even if they are sometimes less well-known in Italy. A visit to the exhibition space thus provides a valuable opportunity to stay updated on the latest trends in European and American art.
“Il Giardino dei Lauri” is not just a collection but is characterized as a deeply dynamic, ever-evolving space. It is home to the non-profit association of the same name, which engages in continuous activities, integrating the existing collection with new acquisitions or commissions from living artists, as well as organizing performances, events, residencies, and artistic projects in this and other locations. In this way, it serves as a true catalyst for the promotion and enhancement of contemporary art throughout Umbria and Tuscany.
