Afranio Metelli - A Typical Afranio Thing!
From 14 December 2024 to 23 February 2025, the exhibition ‘Afranio Metelli - A Typical Afranio Thing!’ will be open in Spoleto, at Palazzo Collicola.
The exhibition, curated by Serena Schioppa in collaboration with Mahler & LeWitt Studios, is a homage to the artist one hundred years after his birth (1924 - 2024) and will present four cycles of works, all centred on the repetition of the same subjects: self-portraits, still lifes, boxers and a ‘d'après’ Balthus, a series inspired by the French artist's famous painting, Guitar Lesson. The small variations that emerge in each cycle of works create a contrast between the familiar and the unknown, the everyday and the exceptional. Metelli manipulates the different subjects in an almost obsessive manner, transforming them into a visual ritual that is incessantly repeated.
