Claudio Verna. La profondità nella superficie
From 26 October 2024 to 12 January 2025 the exhibition ‘Claudio Verna. La profondità nella superficie' curated by Italo Tomassoni, at the CIAC in Foligno.
Claudio Verna, born in 1937, is a key figure and founder of the ‘Pittura Analitica’ art movement.
The artist's upbringing began in Umbria and continued with a long career in Florence and Rome, with numerous group exhibitions and international shows.
His works are fuelled by colour, light and life and are distinguished by extreme rigour and intense emotional abandon.
The absolute protagonist of Verna's paintings is colour and its ability to take on the highest values of saturation and light.
Verna describes painting in itself, in its components, in its axiomatics, in its founding principles in relation to the world. He examines its basic values; he makes sense of it and establishes connections between the components of the work and its external fruition; he ceaselessly returns to the centre of the problematic until he realises how reductive is the conception of a painting that only stops at the surface and support.
He is intrigued by the profound potential of space and colour, the multiple visual and perceptive virtualities that expand from the surface to the exterior or interior, in height and depth.
