Easter in Assisi

Easter in Assisi

On Holy Thursday in the Seraphic town, the "Deposition from the Cross" (the so-called "Scavigliazione") takes place, a tradition which was inspired by a fourteenth-century lauda (sacred song) about the Passion of Christ.

On Good Friday the Procession of the Dead Christ takes place, going from the Cathedral of San Rufino to the Basilica of San Francesco, and is followed in the evening by the atmospheric Procession of the ancient confraternities of Assisi.

On Easter Monday it is time for "Evviva è Pasquetta": after a guided visit to the Bosco di San Francesco (Woodlands of Saint Francis), there will be an open-air spring concert, performed by the Ensemble Resonars in the clearing of the "Terzo Paradiso" (Third Paradise), with medieval and Renaissance pieces to celebrate the end of winter and the arrival of springtime.
