From Raphael to Canova, from Valadier to Balla

100 wonderful artworks, including many absolute masterpieces, belonging to one of the Italian most ancient cultural institutions, the National Academy of St. Luca in Rome, will be displayed in a broad-ranging exhibition in Perugia developing in the two prestigious seats of Baldeschi Palace and Lippi Alessandri Palace, located in the town historical centre and used as museum premises.


The authors include Raphael, Bronzino, Pietro from Cortona, Guercino, Rubens, Wicar, Hayez, Giambologna, Canova, Valadier, Balla, besides many other Italian and foreign artists between 15th and 20th centuries.

The exhibition project offers a full immersion in the history of the National Academy of St.

Luca, reflected in the exhibition by paintings, sculptures, architectural drawings, preliminary sketches, all of them heritage of the Roman Institution.

Along this sort of artistical journey that leads from Rome to Perugia and develops in the heart of the city, the corpus of artworks belonging to the Academy of St. Luca – set up in the two exhibition venues both of whom placed in Corso Vannucci, few metres of distance one from the other – unwinds generally through 12 halls and follows a chronological order.

The itinerary opens with the ‘Cherub holding a festoon’ by Raffaello Sanzio, goes on then among the paintings of Bronzino, Pietro from Cortona, Paris Bordon, Jacopo da Ponte called il Bassano, together with the terracotta from Vincenzo Danti and the Flemish Giambologna.

Afterwards, for the 17th century we find the Knight of Arpino, Anton Van Dyck, Sassoferrato, Pier Francesco Mola, Swerts, Borgianni and many others.

Additionally, there will be “Cupid and Venus” by Guercino, the prestigious plasters by the Danish sculptor Thorvaldsen and Antonio Canova, “The Peasant” by Giacomo Balla and the “Portrait of Bianca” by Amedeo Bocchi.
