Perugia

The first stage of the itinerary "The Lands of Perugino - From Perugia to Foligno" is dedicated entirely to the Umbrian capital and in particular to the National Gallery of Umbria, one of Italy’s most important museums, rich in masterpieces of Italian art. It preserves the largest number of works in the world by Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino, universally known for having renewed the artistic language of the Renaissance.

To commemorate the five-hundredth anniversary of the death of the "divine painter", two rooms entirely dedicated to him were inaugurated on 1 July 2022: one on the third floor for the works of his youth and early maturity, the other, on the lower floor, for his late production, with the most significant examples of his last twenty years of activity, in a highly evocative setting, which collects masterpieces previously distributed in seven different rooms. For info and reservations, visit the official website of the National Gallery of Umbria.

Deruta

The second stop on our itinerary is the picturesque small village of Deruta, which is definitely worth a visit. The town's picture gallery houses Perugino's painting, Eternal Father with Saints Rocco and Romano, 1477-1478, a fresco that was formerly in the church of San Francesco. The work, which dates from Perugino's first return after his stay at Verrocchio's workshop in Florence, shows Saints Rocco and Romano standing and looking toward the appearance of the Eternal Father. God turns his blessing downward, where below the inscription, there is a rare and very special idealized view of Deruta.

Foligno

The last stop on the Itinerary is the city of Foligno, where a short walk through the centre leads to the admirable Oratory of the Nunziatella on Via dell'Annunziata. The building houses Perugino's Baptism of Christ, whose illustrious prototype is the one painted by the same artist in 1480, in the Sistine Chapel in Rome.
