Making Christmas. The ingredients of tradition 2024
From 8 December 2024 to 6 January 2025, the first edition of the event celebrating the Christmas holidays in Trevi, ‘Fare Natale. The ingredients of tradition'.
For three consecutive Sundays, on the dates of 8, 15 and 22 December 2024, workshops will be offered ‘to build Christmas together’ under the banner of the food and wine traditions of the area and the typical recipes of the festivity, but also of craftsmanship and the rules to follow for setting the Christmas table and decorating the house.
During the event, the four rooms of Palazzo Lucarini will be transformed into the rooms of the ‘House of Christmas Making’: the Christmas Room, the Biscuit Room, the Surprise Room and the Father Christmas Room. In addition, the spotlight will be turned on the highest part of the village of Trevi, with the Piazza del Duomo where a small Christmas market will be held to the notes of All Vinyl Holiday Music Selection by Joe Rehmer, Happy Merry Christmas.
On 8 December, Guido Farinelli, food historian, will join the decoration and etiquette workshop conducted by Silvia Aymerich di Laconi, talking about the ‘History of the Table’, as a space for celebration, with a journey through the history of gastronomy through the elements that make up the table set and festively decorated.
On 15 December, meetings and workshops will be dedicated to the theme of ‘The Christmas Eve and Christmas Day menu’. In particular, Rita Boini, author of numerous cookbooks focusing on Italian regional traditions, and Alvaro Paggi, historian and expert connoisseur of local traditions, will talk about ‘The Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dishes’, while themed workshops will be held by chefs Gabriele Mattiacci and Nicolas Capocciuti.
On 22 December, Ivo Picchiarelli, a historian of popular traditions, together with Guido Farinelli will talk about Umbrian sweets linked to Christmas, alongside workshops on: ‘Fichi secchi ripieni’, Terni's ‘Pampepato’ and ‘La Pasta Dolce: Facciamo la pasta dolce.
Dedicated instead to children will be the Biscuit Room, the Surprise Room and the Father Christmas Room.
In the Biscuit Room, every third Sunday afternoon there will be workshops for children from 6 to 12 years old to make Christmas biscuits, held by Sara Papazzoni, a professional cook and personal chef in accommodation facilities and private homes.
In the ‘Surprise Room’ there will be printing workshops for Christmas presents and a workshop to create a pop-up placeholder for the Christmas table and a cyanotype printing workshop to create the greeting card, ‘Pensiero Blu’ (Blue Thought).
During the three Sundays in Father Christmas's Room, children will be able to go ‘Elf School’ and learn how to write their letters to Father Christmas, while waiting for his arrival in the square on Sunday 22 December.
Throughout the festivities, in Piazza Garibaldi, there will be ‘The Big Christmas Slide’, 20 metres long, where children can experience the thrill of sliding on snow in safety.
In Piazza Mazzini and along the streets of the historic centre of Trevi, there will be illuminations, markets, music and Christmas carols.
