Masterpieces of 14th century

Masterpieces of the fourteenth century

Over 60 important artworks from prestigious national and international collections will be displayed in four exhibition venues in Umbria: these are the numbers of the exhibition "Masterpieces of the fourteenth century. From Giotto's building site to the school of Spoleto", which explores the exceptional historical period, between the end of the thirteenth century and the middle of the fourteenth century, which was expressed in Umbria with great political, religious, social and artistic ferment.

The reconstruction of the body of works of anonymous masters, such as the Master of the Palazze, the Master of Sant'Alò, the Master of San Felice di Giano, the Master of Cesi, the Master of San Ponziano, the Master of the Cross of Trevi, the Master of the Cross of Visso, the Master of Fossa, aims to enhance a school of painting that is of great cultural interest but not very well known today.

The four exhibition sites (the Museum Complex of St. Francis in Trevi, the Basilica of Sant'Eufemia in Spoleto, the Albornoz Fortress - National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto and the Museum Complex of St. Francis in Montefalco) have been chosen because the territories on which they insist have been the driving forces behind the activities of these masters, places where they have or had left their most valuable evidence.

One month after the end of the exhibition, the Museums of Montefalco and Trevi are also promoting a series of meetings entitled "UNDERSTANDING THE MIDDLE AGES", an opportunity to get to the heart of the beautiful art exhibition.

The meetings, with free admission, will be held every Saturday from 29th September to 3rd November at 5.00 p.m. (except on 6th October at 4.30 p.m.) and will last about an hour.
