How to enter the Trasimeno Cycle Path: a map of the access points on the southern shore of the lake

The Trasimeno Cycle Path, following the latest interventions in spring 2023, is nearly complete and represents one of the most scenic (and easy) routes for those who want to enjoy a day of cycling in Umbria.

The main access points are also marked with approach signage (photo below).

In this itinerary, we highlight the main access points available on the southern shore of the lake.

Oasi La Valle

Located a few kilometers from San Feliciano, it is one of the main access points, also equipped with parking for cars. Convenient for those coming from Magione, Corciano, Perugia.

San Savino

A few kilometers ahead of Oasi La Valle is the entrance located beneath the village of San Savino, marked by cypress trees and accessible in both directions. Useful for those coming from Magione, Corciano, Perugia.

Faliero-Monte Buono

This entrance is downhill, along the SR599, near Monte Buono, just before the famous "Faliero" restaurant. Suitable for those looking to follow the cycle path in either direction, particularly useful for those coming from Monte Buono, Mugnano, Agello, Tavernelle.
Be aware that the entrance involves a rather steep descent.

“La Folaga del Trasimeno”

Located between Sant’Arcangelo and Monte Buono, it allows cyclists to rejoin the path if riding counterclockwise, after navigating 400 meters on the SR599 mixed-use road (this is the critical stretch mentioned earlier in the article).
Be cautious as the turn is not very visible, and the road is busy.

Sant’Arcangelo Est

This is the counterpart of the previous entrance but for those traveling clockwise. It allows riders to rejoin the dedicated path before reaching Sant’Arcangelo, after 400 meters on the SR599.

Sant’Arcangelo

Located along Via Martiri di Cefalonia, which leads to "Villaggio Italgest", this access point is ideal for those starting from the center of Sant’Arcangelo and wishing to cycle in either direction.

Sant’Arcanglo Ovest

Located at the exit of the village heading towards Chiusi. For those coming from Castiglione del Lago, a left turn allows you to avoid the main road through the center of Sant’Arcangelo. For those heading towards Castiglione, it allows you to continue along the cycle path running alongside the road.

Bivio Panicarola-bivio Castiglione

This is a very important access point as it allows entry to the Trasimeno Cycle Path, leaving the main road for those coming from Panicale, Paciano, Macchie, Chiusi.
At the junction, it’s advisable to turn left towards Castiglione del Lago. The access point, suitable for both clockwise and counterclockwise circuits, is located a few hundred meters ahead.

Rotonda Coop SR142

Another very important access point, as it allows entry onto the Trasimeno Cycle Path, leaving the busy roads. Suitable for those traveling in both directions, it is useful for those coming from the Moiano and Chiusi areas.
From this point onwards, for those heading towards Castiglione del Lago, the path runs alongside the road with several other entry points.

Located just before reaching Castiglione del Lago, this access point is especially useful for those coming from the Gioiella, Pozzuolo area.

Parcheggio Lido di Castiglione

This access point is located near the lake, at the foot of the Castiglione fortress, in the parking area. A water fountain is also nearby. Useful for those starting from the center of Castiglione del Lago.

Another access point located at the foot of the town, in the lakeside tourist area. A reference point is the financial police dog training center.

Useful for those joining the cycle path from the town center or the Pozzuolo area.

Castiglione del Lago-Aeroporto Eleuteri

This is one of the main access points to the Trasimeno Cycle Path for those traveling clockwise.It is located just outside Castiglione del Lago, but can also be reached from the lakeside area.

Once inside the gate, turn left and then right, following the signs for the cycle path.

Please be mindful of the main gate's opening hours.
