How to enter the Trasimeno Cycle Route: the access map

The Trasimeno Cycle Path, following the latest interventions in spring 2023, is nearly complete and represents one of the most scenic (and easy) routes for those who want to enjoy a day of cycling in Umbria.

The main access points are also marked with approach signage (photo below).

In this itinerary, we highlight the main access points available on the northern shore of the lake.


In the route published on Komoot, which you can find HERE, we’ve included additional points. All are highlighted as "highlights."

Rigutini-Bivio Piana

It is one of the few intermediate access points located between Castiglione del Lago and Borghetto, especially useful for those coming from the area of Piana, Ferretto, Petrignano del Lago, as it allows entry to the Trasimeno Cycle Path without covering many kilometers on the SR142. It is suitable for those who want to cycle the loop clockwise or counterclockwise. After leaving the SR142 to reach the cycle path, you need to travel a few hundred meters on a paved road.

Borghetto-Camping Badiaccia

A rather hidden access point, but very important for all those starting from Borghetto or coming from the Terontola-Cortona area and heading toward Castiglione del Lago. You need to leave the paved road toward Camping Badiaccia, then the dirt path begins right next to the campsite entrance.

It is the other entrance located in the Borghetto area, on the opposite side of the village compared to Camping Badiaccia. It is useful for those coming from Terontola and Cortona and wanting to tackle the loop clockwise.

Access point located between Tuoro and Passignano, accessible by following the signs for the recycling center.

A rather hidden access point, located in front of the Coop in Passignano. It is important because it is the closest to the station.

Passignano Pidocchietto-Lake Bike

This is the access point closest to the center of Passignano, making it the most useful for those starting here and wanting to cycle the loop counterclockwise. The entrance is located in front of the Lake Bike shop, to the right of the playground, along the lake.

Re-entry point onto the cycle path for those riding clockwise, located just outside Passignano, heading toward Magione. The entrance is just before the level crossing.

Albaia-Ex Lido Santino

Between Torricella and Monte del Lago, the cycle path runs for several kilometers along a paved road, allowing access at various points. However, this access point is noteworthy as it allows parking and has the Albaia beach bar as a refreshment point.

This is the first entry point to the cycle path for those starting from San Feliciano and cycling the loop counterclockwise. From here, the route follows the road for a few kilometers.
