Renaissance Festival 2024
"The Renaissance Festival" returns to Acquasparta from 8 to 23 June with a calendar full of historical and cultural events, as well as games and gastronomy, aimed at celebrating the great Renaissance season through the re-enactment of the arrival in the city in 1614 of Prince Federico Cesi , known as the Lyncean, founder of the Accademia dei Lincei, Europe's first scientific academy.
The historical commemoration will open with the Grande Corteo delle Contrade (Grand Procession of the Contradas), in which numerous figures in Renaissance costumes parade through the historical centre of Acquasparta. It will be the three contrade of the village, San Cristoforo, Porta Vecchia and Il Ghetto, who will compete during the fifteen days of the festival for the ''keys'' to the city, challenging each other in a series of competitions, which the public will be able to attend: the Gastronomic Competition, with the live preparation of a recipe from Renaissance cuisine, using traditional Umbrian ingredients; the Joust of the Rattling Drums, enriched by the performance of the flag-wavers; the Great Goose Game, a living re-enactment, in costume, of the board game dating back to the second half of the 16th century the Theatre Races, in which each contrada, with its own amateur actors, stages a free theatrical interpretation of a text written before 1630, reworked and adapted; the Giochi delle Dame (Ladies' Games), a series of trials reserved for the women of the contrade of all ages who will have to compete in games inspired by the daily activities traditionally reserved for women at the time.
In addition to the disputes between contrade, the public will be involved in a full calendar of side events, which will lead to the discovery of the territory and its environmental resources and many moments of entertainment designed for both adults and children.
