XXXIV Nativity in the Well «The Hero’s Song»
The 34th edition of the Nativity in the Well will be held in Orvieto, at the Pozzo della Cava, from 23 December 2027 to 7 January 2024.
As per tradition, the Nativity in the Well offers a new setting with a theme always different, mixing sacred texts and traditions, historical truths and timeless myths.
The new staging continues the cycle of the "excluded", in which the Nativity is told by characters who, for various reasons, could not see it live.
The exceptional narrator will be Herod the great, who reigned in Judea at the time of Jesus' birth.
The name Herod means "the song of the hero", and the hero is exactly the Herod, known as Ascalonita or even as "the Great", who, according to what is handed down, was the instigator of the massacre of the innocent.
The cycle of "The Excluded" is a breaking point in the setting up and conception of the Crib in the Well: the scenes set up in the basement are in fact enriched by contemporary installations, to emphasize the topicality of stories and unusual themes, but engaging.
The crib will observe the following times:
continuous opening hours from 10:00 to 20:00, with last entry at 19:45.
In addition, it will be open without any surcharge on the entrance ticket to the Pozzo della Cava:
full admission € 4.00 per person
reduced admission € 2.50 per person
(for children, students, seniors, holders of last year’s crib entrance tickets or affiliated structures and associations).
Free admission up to 5 years.
