Secular Procession of the Dead Christ
The procession of the Dead Christ in Città di Castello has a tradition that has been repeated for more than 800 years.
For the occasion, the lights of the town’s historical centre will be switched off: the procession, lit up by a “living flame” will be made up of the religious authorities that include the members of the Good Counsel’s Brotherhood who have been handing down a centuries-old history linked to dead people and to the Christ’s passion.
Indeed, in the past they were in charge of transporting the deceased people: they were called “Company of the Good Death” precisely because they transported dead people often killed by plagues.
The members of the Good Counsel’s Brotherhood have therefore inherited the accompanying role of the simulacrum of the Deposition of Christ and carry on the ancient tradition of the Good Friday’s procession.
