Umbria Jazz 2024
From 12 to 21 July, Europe's most important jazz festival, Umbria Jazz, returns, enlivening the squares of Perugia with touring concerts and numerous big events.
At Perugia's Santa Giuliana Arena, Richard Galliano New York Tango Trio and Vinicio Capossela will perform on 12 July.
On 13 July it will be the turn of Lenny Kravitz. A timeless artist, an icon of style and music, he returns live with his new album Blue Electric Light.
On 14 July, Raye will make his debut, while on 15 July Chris Potter, charismatic saxophonist, will join jazz pianist Brad Mehldau to create a super quartet with John Patitucci and Johnathan Blake.
On 16 July, songwriter and band leader Lizz Wright and Hiromi's Sonicwonder, an explosive quartet and author of a jazz-rock-funky blend, will perform.
On 17 July, Toto, one of the world's most successful selling bands, famous for songs like Africa and Rosanna, will perform.
On 18 July, Fatoumata Diawara, an intriguing personality of the young African scene, will perform. In his music, respect for traditions and a reference to the roots of folklore are mixed with a cultural message that looks to the future.
On the 19th, two Cuban artists and great interpreters of Latin music will be heard: Chucho Valdés and Roberto Fonseca.
On 20 July it will be the turn of Nile Rodgers & CHIC and Veronica Swift. Rodgers pioneered a musical language that spawned top chart hits like Le Freak, and sparked the advent of hip-hop with Good Times.
The final night of the festival will see one of Brazil's most beloved artists take the stage: Djavan. Also on the same evening, the Pacific Mambo Orchestra will perform.
In addition to these concerts, jazz music will be the protagonist in Perugia's squares and theatres such as the Teatro Morlacchi and the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria.
