October is the month in which the harvesting of saffron flowers begins, an ancient and fascinating spice that has found its ideal habitat in Città della Pieve, which every autumn celebrates its flagship product with a dedicated event: ‘Zafferiamo’.
The event, promoted by the Consortium ‘Il Croco di Pietro Perugino - Zafferano di Città della Pieve “A.Viganò” and the Municipal Administration, which this year reaches its 20th edition, will be held over the weekend of 25-26-27 October 2024, and will propose the “Purest Saffron in threads of Città della Pieve” in all its declinations.
In the historic centre of the town, there will be saffron-scented tastings at the Spazio Food in Piazza Matteotti, organised by the Consorzio Produttori; the market exhibition of the area's excellent products, where the Consorzio dello Zafferano producers will lead visitors to discover and rediscover this precious spice and all the variations of products made with it.
During the event, it will also be possible to take part in demonstrations of weaving fabrics and yarns dyed with saffron, an exhibition of lace and embroidery made using the special ‘Punto Perugino’ technique, intensive ‘Punto Perugino’ embroidery workshops, and creative and painting workshops using saffron.   
There will also be the presence of local wines and extra virgin olive oil that can be tasted in the dedicated space.
