Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Miracoli
To reach the Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Miracoli, you need to go to Castel Rigone, a small hamlet of Passignano sul Trasimeno.
The sanctuary is located just outside the village walls and is one of the finest Renaissance structures in Umbria.
The building was erected in 1494, with the support of the municipality of Perugia, as a place of protection from the plague. For this reason, by the will of Pope Alexander VI, it was dedicated to the .Blessed Virgin of Miracles
The structure is entirely made of sandstone: the façade is the work of Domenico Bertini, while the squat bell tower was rebuilt in 1851 after the collapse of the previous one in 1531. The sanctuary has a Latin cross layout with a single wide nave. On the left wall, you can admire frescoes from the Perugian school dating back to the 16th century.

In the right arm of the transept, in a small chapel made of pietra serena stone and frescoed by Tommaso Bernabei, known as Papacello, there is a wooden Crucifix. Two roundels depicting the prophets Micah and Isaiah, placed on the pillars of the triumphal arch, are by Domenico Alfani.
In the apse, you can admire the painting of the Epiphany, created by Alfani based on sketches by Rosso Fiorentino. In the chapel located in the left transept, also made of pietra serena stone, there is an image of the Madonna and Child, dated to the late 16th century, while the fresco depicting the Coronation of the Virgin, by G.B. Caporali, is positioned above the second altar on the left.
