The Trebbiano Spoletino is a vine that belongs to the large Trebbiani family, one of the most popular white grape varieties in Italy. Despite its name, there are no unequivocal historic records of its origins.
It is grown almost exclusively in a wide area ranging from Spoleto to Foligno and Montefalco in the province of Perugia. When vinified as a pure varietal, the Trebbiano Spoletino yields a wine with a fresh, rather fruity aroma, fairly alcoholic with a distinctive acidity. This last characteristic makes it quite a good choice for the production of sparkling wines. Also used for blending, this grape has found its natural habitat in Spoleto, where it is vinified almost exclusively as a pure varietal.
